Spotify considers paid subscription for podcasts

It seems that Spotify wants to release paid subscriptions that allow podcasts to be listened to. That’s according to a survey the company has put online, asking users if they are interested in such a podcast service.

Andrew Wallenstein, who works at Variety, noticed Spotify is asking some of its users about their willingness to pay for podcasts. Different subscription forms are looked at, including features such as exclusive content, early access to episodes, and ad removal.

It seems to be subscriptions that will cost between $3 and $8 a month. This will not include access to the music streaming service; it is therefore only a subscription to the podcasts. Moreover, the surveyêdoes not mean that a subscription form actually comes; a spokesman told The Verge that more frequent surveys are being done and that this does not mean that this actually leads to new products.

Spotify has been investing in its podcast offering for some time. Last month, it was announced that there are now about two million podcasts to listen to through the music service.
